Serve the Lord with Gladness

Serve the Lord with gladness. Or have we forgotten? I must admit, I do sometimes forget to do so. Physical suffering at its height, not being able to go out and do the things I’m craving to do, comparison and feelings of jealousy against others who seem to have it better — sometimes these make my worship and service to God strained, lacking in buoyancy. Of course I continue serving the Lord but sometimes it’s more of necessity. The worst part is, we often don’t realize that is what’s happening. Until the Lord sends us a reminder.

In our nightly family devotion, we picked up where we left off: the story of Joseph. We had had many lulls during the holidays but last night, the readings and discussion were more than satisfying. We were filled once again, so much so that when I reclined in bed, I was in high spirits and these words came to me: Serve the Lord with gladness! And was I glad as I pondered on the wisdom and inspiration that the Lord filled us with!

We finished reading Joseph and his reconciliation with his brothers. How they were astounded to learn that Joseph had become a powerful leader in Egypt, next to the Pharaoh. While Hannah read, the Lord shone His light in my heart and mind and I saw the truth: God sees the big picture. He had seen Joseph’s success in Egypt even while he was being sold to the Ishmaelite traders and carted away to Egypt to be sold as a slave. He had seen his beginning to his end.

Often, we only see through our limited vision, our difficult circumstances and tight situations. We cannot see beyond them, but God does. He has taken care of our futures even before we reach them. He knows and sees everything, there is no reason to worry! We need only to yield ourselves to Him and continue to be faithful to Him, to stay in the safety of His capable hands. Just like Joseph who, through hardships and against all odds, never waned in his trust in God, we can rest in our strong faith and trust in the Lord. And He will make it to pass – whatever it is that we are going through or earnestly desiring. This is His promise:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer. 29:11 NIV)

He’s an all-knowing and all-powerful God and He lovingly cares for us. These reminders are what make us glad in serving Him no matter what.

Greetings Rina dear. I have a prayer request for a friend with medium M.S disease ..Her name is Carolyn. she is almost 70 yrs. young! Greatthing is that God did heal her out of wheelchair to walking and driving when her body allows strength. Sometimes she, like you, cannot do anything but stay in bed. Thankfully, she now has a Christian lady who, helps her a few hours a day, Monday thru Thursday thru HUD, I beleieve. She lives in a small apartment through HUD provision. Her car is 1999 that has been and looks good but now needs costly repairs. They are not sure is worth it. Praying for a better car somehow. Some of us are blessed to help her some but not for everything needed. . Unfortunately her husband and her are divorced for 30 years and she has not seen her daughters for years, and never her grandchildren. All this time, she has been loving Jesus, YESHUA , with all her heart and living for HIM. But she still needs our prayers. I knew you would care. I continue to,pray for you. Thankful for your precious family and your love for your Savior and ministering to those of us who have various trials that still bring us back to our Savor Jesus.
